Abstract

Interpretation as a cross-cultural communicative act, involves many factors among which culture is seen as an outstanding one. Apart from bilingualism, an interpreter, as a cultural mediator, should have a due acquaintance with cultures in respective languages and raise the general awareness of the importance of cultural elements in interpreting. The present paper aims at enhancing the interpreters’ cultural awareness by analyzing the heavily cultural-bound phenomena: classical allusions and idioms and the corresponding strategies adopted to deal with such problems.
