Abstract

The rapid advancement of intelligent technologies is driving a profound transformation in engineering education towards a competency-development paradigm. However, textbook systems, as a core educational carrier, remain plagued by structural issues including knowledge silos, outdated content, and a disconnect from practical applications. Existing reform efforts are often fragmented , lacking a systematic and sustainable solution. To address this gap, this study follows a design science research approach to proposes and constructs a theoretical framework named the “Interdisciplinary Dynamic Textbook System.” This framework (1) employs a knowledge graph as its intelligent backbone, (2) reconstructs knowledge organization around problem-based logic, (3) utilizes a dynamic engine to generate personalized learning paths, and (4) establishes an institutionalized collaboration mechanism for the continuous co-evolution of industrial and educational knowledge.A proof-of-concept implementation, based on a case study of “Intelligent Connected Vehicle System Design,” demonstrates the system’s efficacy in facilitating interdisciplinary integration and maintaining synchronization with industrial advancements. This study not only provides a scalable design solution to the textbook dilemma but also contributes to theory by proposing a fundamental ontological shift in textbooks—from “static knowledge containers” to “dynamic knowledge ecosystems.”
