Abstract

Since 2020, network miniseries have been officially defined, and its market scale has expanded rapidly, occupying an important position in the film and television industry. Under this background, the situation of audience’s demand satisfaction and the use and satisfaction mechanism of network mini-series have become the focus of research. Based on the theory of balancing demand from new media, this study makes an in-depth analysis of the new mechanism of using and satisfying network mini-plays through questionnaire survey and in-depth interview. The findings are as follows: Due to “time poverty” , low-income groups are more dependent on the “fragmented entertainment” function of mini-series; The more the audience relies on the algorithm, the more they prefer the fast-paced “cool drama”; The viewing time of the short drama was negatively correlated with the change of aesthetic standards, but the audience’s perception of whether the scene switching was smooth and the character image design was reasonable was still keen.
